31e Cinemed - Festival Cinéma Méditerranéen Montpellier

Sélection 2009 : appel à participation (see English text below)

Le 31e Cinemed aura lieu du 23 octobre au 1er novembre 2009.

L’inscription de films en ligne pour la sélection aux différentes compétitions et aux panoramas est ouverte du 10 février au 31 août sur notre site www.cinemed.tm.fr.

Peuvent participer les films réalisés depuis le 1er janvier 2008, dont le sujet et le traitement contribuent à enrichir les représentations filmiques de la Méditerranée et dont le réalisateur est originaire de l'un des États du bassin méditerranéen, de la mer Noire, du Portugal et de l'Arménie.

Boogie, sortie France le 4 mars (see English text below)

Présenté en avant-première au 30e Cinemed 2008, Boogie sera en salle à partir du 4 mars.

En vacances au bord de la mer avec sa femme et son fils de quatre ans, Bogdan Ciocazanu, surnommé Boogie, tombe sur ses meilleurs amis de lycée. Ils se rappellent les glorieuses soûleries et les escapades sexuelles de leur jeunesse...

Le Déjeuner du 15 août, sortie France le 11 mars (see English text below)

Présenté en compétition au 30e Cinemed 2008 où il a remporté le Prix de la critique, le film de Gianni Di Gregorio sera sur les écrans le 11 mars.

Le Déjeuner du 15 août, de Gianni Di Gregorio ( Italie, 2008, 1 h 18 mn). Avec Gianni Di Gregorio, Valeria De Franciscis, Marina Cacciotti, Maria Cali, Grazia Cesarini Sforza, Alfonso Santagata.
Bien que d'âge assez mûr, Gianni vit dans une vieille demeure du centre de Rome avec sa mère, dame d'origine aristocratique qui le tyrannise et lui laisse à peine assez de temps libre pour aller boire des verres au bar. La veille de la fête de l'Assomption ("Ferragosto" en italien), le gérant de l’immeuble, qui connaît la situation de "captivité" de Gianni, lui demande de s'occuper de sa mère à lui pendant deux jours en échange d'une quittance pour tous les impayés de Gianni.

(English) 2009 Selection: Call for entries
Dates of the 31st Cinemed: 23 October-1 November 2009.

On line registration of films to be selected for the different competition or panorama sections is available from 10 February to 31 August 2009 on our website www.cinemed.tm.fr.

Participation is open to films completed since 1 January, 2008. The subject and handling of the films must contribute to the cinematic representation of the Mediterranean and the director must be from one of the states in the Mediterranean Basin, the Black Sea states, Portugal and Armenia.

(English) More than €100,000 in prizes and grants

Once again this year more than €60,000 in cash well be awarded to the winners, in addition to prizes consisting in different services and grants worth €40,000 offered by sponsors.

(English) Radu Muntean’s Boogie: French release on 4 March

Shown as a preview at the 30th Cinemed in 2008, Boogie will be in French theatres from 4 March.

Life for Bogdan couldn't seem more blissful, sea-vacationing along with his gorgeous wife and adorable young son. He has grown up: the days of glorious drinking trips and sexual adventures are long gone... But when Bogdan unexpectedly runs into his best friends from high school, vivid memories immediately flood back. Torn between his family obligations and the lure of a fun night out with his old friends, Bogdan - or Boogie, as he was known back then - comes to a realization. The gaps between his childhood pals have grown wider.

The performances are excellent, particularly from lead actor Bucur, who's in almost every frame and carries the film nicely. The script perfectly captures the drunken banter and bravado of the three friends and their attempts to recapture their glory days are entirely believable. In short, Boogie is a sharply observed film about growing up that saves a powerful emotional punch for its perfect final scene. Recommended. (Matthew Turner.)

Even though rather middle-aged, Gianni lives in an old apartment in the centre of Rome with his mother, a lady of aristocratic origin who tyrannizes him and barely leaves him time to have drinks in a bar. The day before the Feast of the Assumption ("Ferragosto" in Italian), the manager of the building, who is familiar with Gianni's "captivity", asks him to take care of his mother for two days in exchange for settling all of Gianni's debts.

Written and directed by one of Italy's most celebrated screenwriters, Gianni Di Gregorio (most recently contributing to the acclaimed Gomorrah), Mid-August Lunch is a miniature gem, by turns comic, embarrassing, engaging and emotionally affecting. This is a small but beautifully rendered drama of manners that captures the nuances of people's behaviour. A completely unique film, Mid-August Lunch is a charming and convincing first feature.
